How many times have you been on a ride and became focused on the car or bike directly ahead of you? Admittedly, it is easy to do. You want to make sure you don’t get too close, or maybe you are traveling too close and don’t even know it. If something were to happen, you’d have little to no reaction time for an appropriate response. What are the lead times a rider should follow when out on the road? That really depends on an individual’s skill set, but there are three basic visual lead times we refer back to: 2 seconds, 4 seconds, and 12 seconds.
