Chapter Member Spotlight - Rodney & Sherry Wooten

I started riding my first street bike in 1981 a Suzuki 360.

Sherry and I started riding in 2005 when we purchased our first bike together at an estate auction in Pittsburg Kansas, it was a 1997 Kawasaki Vulcan. I was a part time auctioneer and Sherry work with the auction company to. We would ride every afternoon after work to get a little wind therapy. In spring of 2008 we had planned a trip to come ride our favorite area, Yes Lafayette & Breaux Bridge La. The Kawasaki transmission went out one week before our vacation, so we drove to Baton Rouge and rented a Harley Davidson Road King to ride during our vacation here in Louisiana. We loved the Harley Davidson so much when we got home, I wore the HD dealership out looking. I wanted an Ultra Classic, Sherry kelp telling me these was an OLD MAN bike, one day we convinced her to just get on and let us take a quick ride. Enough said, we bought our first HD 2009 Ultra Classic from Cycle Connection Joplin Mo / We road all over the mid-west, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee. In 2009 I spent 9 days with my brothers riding to the mouth of the Mississippi River and back down to Mississippi. Yes, we did make it to the mother land Milwaukee. I road this bike for 1 year, 13K mile. Then what no one wants to hear, I was T-boned in Missouri, lived in Tennessee. Hospitalized for 7-days, rehab 2 weeks, broken leg for 40 months. Was a long ride that I could not done it without Sherry my loving wife.

I have been with Coca Cola since 2001 after working for Pepsi Cola for 21 years and Sherry has worked in several banks since my job takes us to different locations over the years, she currently has been with Regions Bank since 2012. We have been in seven different states in the last 23 years. It has been an interesting ride, but Sherry says this is our home. We love this place and the people here in Acadiana area. Sherry said she will never live North of I-10 again.

We have been members of the Cajun HOG for two years. Sherry is a member of LOH and loves it when she gets to attend. We love all the different events the chapter puts on its always a lot of fun. I am currently a Road Captain & New Member Officer. I have had lots of opportunities to attend some great rides with some amazing people. Sherry and I often talk about how we enjoy our Cajun HOG Family. We never meet people at Harley that do not treat us like family. Cajun people are the nicest people we ever met in all the states we have lived in.

Sherry and I took the riding academy course in May 2019. I learned a lot from the course I was not aware I was doing wrong. Sherry learned ways to be a better rider and if she decides she can ride her own bike. We highly suggest the course to any new rider or a rider period. The course was very informative. Thanks to Jeff Addison, Joni Ewing, and Al Craven.

I have ridden a lot over the lower states and some of the Northern states. I have ridden 22,000 miles so far this year and more to come. Looking forward to a trip back to Arkansas soon.

One of our favorite rides had to have been the Texas hill country, we went with a group of great friends. Before we moved South, we enjoyed riding the Boston Mountains in Arkansas. Our bucket list ride would have to be to Canada, beautiful country cannot wait to see it.
